The Role
Overall I very much enjoyed my time at IBM. The work was varied and interesting, the location was excellent and as a company they had a excellent mentoring and support structure in place. The work could be hard sometimes and slightly stressful however you certainly learn a lot whilst working here.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. People would always send their appreciations once a task had been completed on their behalf. People were also happy to give their feedback and offer suggestions when they could.
IBM has an excellent manager/mentor scheme in place. You are given two managers (task and development) who help you with different aspects of your work. Task Manager - Is responsible for your day to day activities and defines your role within the company. They also share their guidance and expertise with you. My manager in particular would also suggest training exercises and took a big hand in my personal development. Development Manager - Regularly sets up reviews and meetings to make sure you're getting along well. Also proposes training and giveback opportunities.
My days would vary greatly. Our work depended on other people, therefore during low periods (IE Christmas) we would be very quiet. However most days we were very busy due to having the responsibility of multiple processes and dealing with many internal clients.
We were given quite a lot of responsibility. Our role directly impacted other areas of the business and we were trusted with confidential data.
As mentioned before we had great chances to develop our skills through many training exercises and development plans.
