The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at IBM. Although there were some challenging times during my time at IBM, I believe my experience has given me the key skills and competencies to succeed in my future endeavors.
Adapting to the surroundings and different work styles was a challenge at the start of my placement, however as I adjusted to the environment I felt very much valued and appreciated at IBM. My team gave me the support, time and guidance I needed to ensure I made the most of my time at IBM.
My managers were both polite and professional in there work manner, their understanding/interpretation of a situation or circumstances made them extremely approachable managers. Their guidance and support throughout my time is very much appreciated.
I was fairly busy throughout my time at IBM, my monthly, quarterly and weekly tasks filled up a lot of my time as well as on-going tasks that need maintaining. When there were times where I was quiet I often acted as a support function for my team or looking at different methods to make my tasks more efficient.
I was given significant amount of responsibility within my time at IBM, which enabled me develop core skills to take forward in my future studies and career.
The skills, training and support I developed during my placement are invaluable. The knowledge and awareness of technical functionalities will assist me greatly in my final year of University.
The Company
Although the environment of a finance department is typically serious and sometimes stressful, my team at IBM never failed to ensure we focused on the positive aspects of everything by maintaining open communication.
The overall organisation of my placement was very good, the interviews, assessment centres and matching process were controlled and structured - IBM provided on-going communication during my application process. The two introductory days were extremely insightful and helped me to understand exactly what is expected during my placement year.
The training provided was excellent, my handover was efficient and well organised. The constant support and knowledge provided by my immediate team allowed me to develop upon my existing skills. Although I would have like to been more involved in the upper management calls that provided a more in depth view into how the business operates at a broader level.
Flexi Time

Working from home
The future employment prospects of IBM such as their graduate scheme is extremely appealing, I'd like to further develop my existing skills that I've gained during my placement year.
The Culture
The social scene was fairly average, this is mainly due to the fact that I lived at home.
Not Applicable.
Unable to answer this question as I commuted back and forth from my home town in Southampton.
IBM allowed me to participate in many opportunities outside my role. This included giveback opportunities such as Bring Your Child to Work Day and Big Interview Day, these opportunities have enabled me improve my ability to work under pressure and manage time efficiently.
