The Role
The placement was a fantastic insight into the operations behind such a huge organisation. My eyes were opened and I found myself learning every day! A great team and a brilliant cohort of other interns made the year fly by.
I felt my presence was crucial in the small team I was a part of. Not only did I feel valued but also trusted a lot by the people I worked with from the very beginning which was a massive confidence boost from the very start.
All of the managers I worked with were more than willing to assist me in any way I needed; everyone was open to teaching an eager new starter, and therefore the opportunities available to me were huge.
On occasion I was left with either very little or too much work, however using the other intern in my team, the majority of the time there was a perfect balance. At my busiest I felt valued that everyone needed help, and my quieter times allowed me further my own personal learning.
A fair amount was given to me, where working within such a small team allowed everyones work to be valued. My work directly influenced team decisions and opportunities for further follow on to my work were always available.
My technological skills have increased a lot, mainly through the daily use of Excel and databases. These have improved enough that I would now call myself proficient, where I was not before. My softer, interpersonal skills have also been improved dramatically, due to the large number of education and learning sessions/opportunities.
The Company
Good, depending on the area and the team you are working in, every department has a different vibe! Majority of the office is very businesslike and smart, however down in the Labs the atmosphere is more relaxed.
Really well organised. Interns are taken care of as part of the Foundation team, which offers amazing support and training. You are also given an Early Professionals Manager (EPM) separate from your Task Manager who is there for support, guidance and advice - and will also aid if you wish to apply back for the graduate program.
Each individual has to undertake 40 hours of personal learning and development - from the IBM library of education, where there is a vast amount you can choose from. Within Foundation there are also a lot of educational sessions - where you can choose from the ones that interest you most/the ones you feel will benefit you most.

Very appealing, there are incentives and opportunities for you to get involved with all throughout the year to get you more information about the graduate scheme so that you have all the information available to you. There are a wide variety of jobs and the training as a graduate is really valued across the industry.
The Culture
Yes very good - with so many interns/graduates in Southbank you're bound to find someone you get along with, and being in Central London there is always something to do.
Very high - even with the wage increase and the bonus the cost of living in Central London is very high.
Very good (central London) but very expensive
Yes there are sports teams and also the opportunity to take part in giveback opportunities where you help the community.
