About You
I genuinely really enjoyed the insight with Deloitte. I found it to be very informative without being dull. They put on a variety of sessions by good and engaging speakers, and gave everyone at the insight lots of opportunities to ask questions. Deloitte's hospitality was also very generous, and so overall I had a great jam-packed two days.
The staff at Deloitte were all very friendly and we got to speak to one of the partners of the firm also. We also had a networking dinner with employees at Deloitte which was another great opportunity to ask questions to find out about life at Deloitte. I was made to feel of value whilst being on the insight days.
They successfully relayed relevant information about the different job roles in Deloitte. We also were given the opportunity to have mock interviews with employees in Deloitte, this was really useful to practise and to find out how to improve our interview skills. The employers also aided us when doing group challenges to find out more about the type of work scenarios we could have working with Deloitte.
The insight provided an interview skills session and the opportunity to practise as mentioned above, which was useful interviews we could have with other employers also. The information I received about Deloitte was useful to decide if I would like to work with them or with similar companies in the future. They also put on a body language and social interactions workshop with an external speaker who was engaging and informative.
The Company
The insight was well structured, and we were given printouts of all the powerpoint slides which was useful to have to look back on at a later date. We had a schedule for each day which they stuck to, and were given time in the evening to relax and enjoy the amenities in the hotel they provided.
The general atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly. There appears to be a good camaraderie between the employers in the Reading Office we visited. The Deloitte Office was also very nice and seems like a good place to work, they also a have a gym in their offices. The other students on the insight were also very friendly.
As the insight was only two days, we did not receive a lot of invested training and development, although some skills sessions were put on as previously mentioned
The insight gave me a better understanding of what it would be like to work with the firm than I expected. This is as we had examples of work scenarios we could deal with and were challenged to try and see how we would approach the problems. We were then given guidance by the employers how they would deal with those situations. They also explained the different areas within the area of tax that the insight was specifically for.
We got many opportunities to talk to the employees which helped understand the company culture. We got to hear about the company's investments in their employees and extra things, such as helping the community that could be done. We were not explicitly told about the ethos of the company as a whole, which we could have been told more about.
It was valuable as they told us enough information about what it would be like to work at Deloitte in the future.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed travel expenses to get to the Reading Offices and we were given accommodation in a very lovely four-star hotel. We were also provided with lunch on both days, and dinner on the first day and hotel breakfast on the second day. I was very satisfied with the reimbursement for this experience.
Yes we were given many opportunities to meet current employees, as we were given talks throughout the day, and they helped with group work we did and ran the interview sessions. Also we were provided with a chance to network over dinner which was a great opportunity. I got to ask the full range of questions that I had, and was satisfied as I learnt a lot about the company and role types.
As stated above they were very good.
I got to ask the staff what activities they did out of work
Yes, I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend as I had a really enjoyable time! I was worried that it was only two days in comparison to other insights which were longer, but I feel that they conveyed all relevant information to us and so it was the right amount of time. The Summer Internship will be where you actually get to be involved with working for the company, but this was a nice introductory pre-cursor to see if the summer internship is for you!
