About You
I thoroughly enjoyed this insight into the world of banking. I met some interesting people and learnt so much about the various different sectors of the bank. It was also good to improve my transferable skills such as CV, interview or presentation skills. It was an incredible opportunity and one that I would recommend to anyone.
I felt very valued during my time at Nomura. The recruitment team made sure that we were always ok and the teams running the workshops would check that everyone knew what they were doing before starting. Additionally, during lunches, we were able to socialise with directors and other Nomura employees. This was really interesting and we were able to ask lots of questions.
We all received guidance and support from the recruitment team on CV and interview skills. We had various other teams who came to talk to us and run workshops with us during the three days, and they gave us advice on how to get to where they are now in their career path. We also had a chance to socialise with directors and analysts during lunches. They gave us advice and told us about their own pathway into the banking sector.
The transferable skills, such as CV or interview skills or how to pitch well, will be vital for any of us in the future. Furthermore, my confidence in presentations and introductions for example, was greatly improved. Also by having workshops on recent case studies and doing presentations on current issues facing the World today, I was able to learn more about the global economy. This is particularly useful for my degree next year.
The Company
The insight was really well structured. We all received a detailed three-day timetable in our starter packs. I learnt so much, yet it was only three days. The programme was organised very well.
Everyone on the First Step Programme was friendly and the atmosphere was not too intimidating. The workshops were a great way of making the atmosphere less tense and socialise with the other students on the First Step Programme. It was a really fun experience.
The three days were full of workshops and presentations on different sectors of the bank to crucial skills such as interview and presentation skills.
Although the programme was only three days, we were able to experience the London offices and we were given tours around each floor of the building. Also, the days were rather long from 9:30-5:30.
We were given tours around the building and it gave us an opportunity to understand what working in a large London office is all about. It was amazing seeing how many facilities Nomura has on offer, from the gym, to the restaurant.
The content was so valuable, as it made me definitely want to continue to strive to work in the banking sector. The workshops and presentations, meant that I learnt more about the skills needed to be in this profession and I now understand the different roles in a bank.
Everything Else
There was nothing to be reimbursed for.
Over the three days, we would have many different workshops, presentations and we were also able to socialise over lunches and the Parent Network opportunity at the end of the three days.
They were well organised and it gave us a proper chance to ask questions to the analysts and directors. It was so interesting how they got to their position and hearing about what they were doing at my age. It also meant our parents were able to meet the other students on the First Step Programme during the Parents Networking Evening.
Yes through the tours around the offices and the recruitment team, we were able to hear about the many different activities offered to the employees outside of the office. For example, the gym had several different sports societies on offer.
I would recommend this experience to a friend, because it has further enhanced my interest in the banking sector. I learnt so much over the three days and met so many interesting people. It was also incredible being able to see their London offices properly.
