The Role
Really enjoyable overall year
Everyone is very friendly and treats you normally, no special treatment because you're a student
I was in a very specific role with only myself and manager as the team, so had a very good mentor/mentee relationship.
Most of the time I was quite busy, depending on the time of year - during the summer lots of people are on holiday so less busy
I was given lots of responsibility, with communications at a European/World-Wide level through manager
The skills I've learnt has helped me focus and grow, which I can take forward into degree and career
The Company
There were quite a number of interns in the same office so everyone would be down for lunch, and being based in London meant that travelling to the central London office was easy
Had a good structure, reviews at 3, 6, and 12 months to check progress and development. At IBM you have a task manager that looks after day-to-day work, and another that is more of a career/pastoral manager
I had some training, there is lots of learning you can do
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Working from home
The grad scheme has a very good reputation
The Culture
Yes, there was a number of people based in the same location and I lived with three others doing the same thing
London house prices are pretty expensive, but it's doable.
Pretty decent
There's lots of opportunities to do volunteering, help run assessment centres etc as part of giveback
