About You
I had such a great time at J P Morgan. I met lots of people from the company and everyone was really friendly and helpful. The week had a busy but enjoyable schedule which was full of really insightful activities and helped me to get an understanding of what the company is all about.
Every single person that I was introduced to during the week made sure they interacted with me and answered any questions I had about banking and their roles. Although I was ill for the week, the organisers were really understanding. I did not feel anyone thought they were above me.
The first day was a shock to me a little. The first activity we had was preparation for a group exercise. I did not know much about economics or finance and so this was a struggle for me, having a discussion with people who knew far more than I did. But everyone was very helpful in making sure I understood enough in the end
The Company
The insight was incredibly structured. The sessions were all planned and ran on time and there was enough time for breaks too. The days were long, but the organisation was perfect for such a busy week with so many people. Everyone was in the right place at the right time.
There was a great workshop about presentational hints and tips and skills sessions. These were beneficial for the last day, where we did our group presentation. The busy schedule, the quality of the sessions and the interaction we had with people in the firm all lead me to believe I was beinginvoested in.
I would have liked to have shadowed more than 2 people on the desks but I know this isn't always feasible. Other than that, I believe we spoke to enough people and interacted enough with the surroundings to really get a feel for what like is like at such a big financial institution.
We saw so many people talk, met so many employees in different industries and had so much exposure to the surroundings and that why I gave this 10/10. The culture really is so important in a bank and the people you will be working alongside for 12+ hours a day matter!
Extremely helpful, as I went on to the assessment centre and to gain a summer internship for next year. The Spring week allowed me to shadow an area I was interested in, meet the people on the desk and see what the working environment was like. As a result, I chose my path for the internship.
Everything Else
During the week there was numerous times to interact, network and chat with all ranges of employees, from analysts to MDs. Here we're professional and relaxed places to do network. Ie) over lunch and at a bar. The rotational asset class lunch was nice as it allowed me to speak to a range of people.
This was a really interesting week to see what life in Markets is like. I preferred it to other Spring weeks that were rotational as I only have an interest in markets. The people were great, the activities were insightful and lots of opportunities to ask questions and find out more.
