    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am only a few weeks away from finishing my placement and boy what a year its been. One that has been challenging, fast paced and at times stressful but overall something I have enjoyed! From a social point of view, this placement has been amazing. Offering drinks every Friday, internal sporting events and monthly end of period celebrations where there are often prizes up for grabs. The job role itself was something that took me a while to get to grips with, but that's only natural in recruitment. After a few months of initial training I fully understood my specialisms I was recruiting for and soon enough was going out to meet with my clients, registering good candidates and ultimately filling jobs - which is great fun and very rewarding.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Your colleagues are very welcoming and supportive of you when you first start and within weeks they look at you as normally employee. As an intern you have exactly the same responsibility as permanent Recruitment Consultant, so you are expected for perform the same as others - which is good as it gives you a lot of responsibility. Everyone in the office are of a young age, social, friendly and are always game for after work drinks.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You are always given support by your manager throughout your whole of your placement. My manager was great! - Whenever I needed help he would help. All I had to do was just ask and he would be more than happy to support me. We had a really good relationship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Busy doesn't describe how much work I had at times, though the work though was up and down depending on the jobs you were working on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • You are given the same responsibilities as those who aren't interns. Your job role in a Recruitment Consultant, as is most people in the office. You are given your own industries and roles to recruit for. I was given a huge amount of responsibility on my placement.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The main thing I have taken away from my placement is the skills I have developed. Negotiating and persuading, commercial awareness etc. Working in recruitment will 100 per cent help my future career in terms of interview, client exceptions in interview, CV writing. You also develop various professionally relationships which you can use to help you get role after graduation.
