The Role
The IBM placement scheme gave me a massive amount of confidence and through that I thoroughly enjoyed my time at IBM
IBM has a great philosophy were everyone feels equal no matter what level of the company that you are
I was lucky enough to have my managers and supervisors only metres away from my desk so I felt like I could always ask them for help and advice when needed. They always make sure that you are on top of your workload
I was very busy throughout the day as I always had a task that I was able to work on. Due to the nature of technical support it is required that you are able to manage your time well and I really enjoyed it
I was given a lot of responsibility from within the first few weeks. This is something that I thrived on within the role and allowed me to learn the job on the spot which really did benefit me
I gained a massive amount of knowledge relating to data warehousing, SQL and servers. I have two modules relating to these fields in my final year which will certainly benefit me in my degree
The Company
The atmosphere within our team was really friendly but at the beginning and end of the week the office would often be quieter within the other teams
The induction period at the start was really well run and the constant support I received throughout the year from the mentors was fantastic
I was allowed onto external training courses and was able to learn a lot about the new products that was available to our customers
Sports and Social Club
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
The graduate scheme always takes on 300+ a year and IBM continue to appear in the top 25 graduate companies in the world
The Culture
There was around 20-30 other interns based at the location I was at which meant that there was always a group of people available for the social side
Cost of living varies depending on whether you chose to live in London or not
Central London being a short train journey away makes the nightlife aspect great, there's something for everyone
You can gain as much or as little as you like within the placement year at IBM. There are always opportunities for travel to national events that interest you
