The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement. It was a very welcoming environment, and I eas encouraged to try new things and learn.
A colleague once said something along the lines of "you students are massively important and the work you do really helps us out" completely out of the blue, it was a nice touch.
Management and supervisors were incredible, very helpful, never lost their temper at the probably rather stupid questions asked at the beginning of the year. My supervisor has the patience of a saint.
huge variance week to week based on customer response. Sometimes worked off my feet, sometimes able to spend days working on something completely different for fun.
I was in a customer facing support role, cant get much more responsibility than that. If we were good the customer had a good interaction with IBM, if we were bad it would leave a very sour taste. We were trusted with IBMs reputation to these clients in a way.
The increase in analytical thinking, troubleshooting and general fixing it will be invaluable for the rest of my career I'm sure.
The Company
Very quiet, everybody going about their business, occasionally bursting into open conversation for 10 minutes, then back to work. everybody happy to help when asked.
Ran like a well oiled machine I think. training was clear and concise at the start of the year. Clear steps of what we were going to do and when.
IBM has paid for multiple certifications for me, and would have done so for more had I desired it. The opportunities are there, but you have to be prepared to study for them.
Financial Bonus
Working from home
I am certainly applying to the graduate scheme.
The Culture
quite a lively one.
Job was in Feltham, but I commuted from home so no comment.
N/a
With a company the size of IBM there is always something going on.
