    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed certain parts of the placement. The scheme as a whole was good and the company is also good, however the job role itself wasn't of my interest and wasn't as technical as I had thought it would be. Being a computer science student, and this job being displayed as a technical role made me think it would be different before starting.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues treated me as they would treat any other employee here. I wasn't made to feel like an intern amongst a group of professionals. Whether it was my manager, my team or any other employee in the workplace, they all treated me the same, like another employee working there.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager gave me as much support as I needed. Although we were not based in the same location, he was always available for any issues or queries i had and if he couldn't sort it out for me, then he would find someone who could and point me in the right direction

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied for certain days in the week. Some days I was relatively busy, which is what I prefer but others would be very boring and quiet. There was always other things like education or training to do.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My job role was a proper one, which someone else in my team who was based overseas was getting paid for as a full-time job.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed some personal skills and also learned how to behave and work in a professional environment. In terms of my technical skills or things I learned in university, those skills didn't really develop through this year and I didn't have to utilise them.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was generally pretty good. There was a vibrant group of interns

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The scheme is very well set up and provides the intern with many opportunities for development.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are a lot of education courses that IBM provide online which can be accessed at any time. There were also two main education events through the year that were compulsory for interns to attend and were useful. However I feel like they could provide a few more of these throughout the year.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think the prospects are better for someone looking for a business role compared to those looking for technical ones.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene here at IBM and all of the interns knew each other which made things easier and more fun.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The salary managed to cover the living costs with money being left over to socialise too. The area I was based in had a University near it so it was a good area to socialise and wasnt too expensive.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The salary managed to cover the living costs with money being left over to socialise too. The area I was based in had a University near it so it was a good area to socialise and wasnt too expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • IBM itself provided us with a few opportunities however we had to make our own plans outside of work usually.

    4/5
