The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my whole placement year.
Everyone I worked with, from my close team to more external colleagues were incredibly welcoming, encouraging and supportive.
We have two managers, one for our tasks and another for our career. Both provide immense support at all times to help us advance ourselves and achieve our goals.
My role was varied in terms of busyness. During certain projects it could be long days, but during business as usual it would be less busy.
I was entrusted with a lot of responsibility, which increased throughout the year. But only if you could prove yourself. Don't expect to be given responsibility if you don't seek it or prove you can handle it.
Everything I have learnt is transferable.
The Company
Both professional but also informal. You are made to feel comfortable but must have the maturity to understand when you need to show professionalism.
They have a very well thought out and supported scheme.
There are many physical workshops, virtual workshops and online courses available. The content is there.
Flexi Time
Working from home
They are hugely encouraging of retaining students that have proven themselves, and will support your application however they can without being unfair on other candidates.
The Culture
All interns have a good social life, but it is what you want it to be. Do not feel like you have to follow the main groups, there are enough interns to find the social group you feel comfortable in.
Outside of London will always be less expensive. Might be an idea to save during your placement year, and go to the city when you earn more as a Grad.
This isn't an aspect of a placement I put much emphasis on.
Again, the opportunities are there. You just need to be proactive and get involved.
