The Role
My placement was enjoyable and challenging. Everyday yielded new hurdles that required information filtering and redistribution. Logical thought processes and problem solving are interests of mine and within this pressured environment this was something I was able to experience . I would recommend it to anyone.
I am regularly told what good work I am doing and am often told how to improve when I did something wrong without any serious repercussions. I felt valued at the company by my team.
I would speak to my mentor every single day and my manager on a weekly basis to talk about almost anything that I had a query with. I felt I had a lot of support and no question was too stupid to approach him with.
Depending on the time of the month I was often very busy. Toward the month end things often ramped up significantly as deals were to close but on the whole I never really found myself without something to do. At times when I did there was plenty of online training to keep me occupied.
I was supporting an account manager for the first half of my placement then after that I was owning my own opportunities from start to close which was a great responsibility to have, This gave me experience in forecasting too which was enjoyable.
I completed a vast array of training courses both online and in the classroom some of which included information that I will surely apply next year when I return to university. I am grateful of the training opportunities that were offered to me and I would urge anyone who gets this placement to make the most of them whilst they can.
The Company
The majority of my team work in other offices so face to face contact was minimal. This meant small talk and casual chat were limited as phone calls were often concise and short so as not to waste time. Socially there were not too many opportunities but that was never an objective of mine when I started. I was happy with the atmosphere in the office as if facilitated a good work ethic.
The support and how it was run was fantastic. The interns were given chances to meet senior management and ask questions regularly and we were guided through a couple of events that gave us experience with charity work and public speaking.
I was able to complete training courses (as previously mentioned) this gave me to opportunity to be able to ask questions to industry leaders and experts which I would never get the time when at uni.

Working from home
The company does not currently offer a graduate scheme but there are graduates in short term positions through an external graduate company. I would differently re-apply for the company given the chance as I have enjoyed my time here.
The Culture
The other placement students got on well together and we would eat lunch together every day. We also had supper a couple of times outside of working hours.
I lived in Oxford and commuted in every day which was disgracefully expensive but that was a personal choice and as far as I am aware Reading is much cheaper which is where the office is located.
I did not live near my place of work.
Not especially, there was a 5 a side football team that was sporadic. I believe there is a cricket team too but I did not get involved.
