    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very enjoyable, in both the job role, the work environment and the people I have worked with on a day-to-day basis. Even in the difficult points in my internship, I have found it very positive as I have used every obstacle as a learning curve to aid my personal development.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have not felt like an Intern here on a temporary basis, I have felt like a permanent employee and been treated like a normal member of staff. So I have felt very valued by my colleagues and my contributions have been notable.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have received a full training plan that would be given to me as a permanent employee and I have been able to discuss any difficulties or problems openly with my managers to resolve them effectively. They have aided my development significantly and often asked if there are any specific areas that I am keen to improve in so that they can help me strive to do so.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been extremely busy during my internship, as my manager has made sure I keep my activity high so that there is a constant workflow coming through. I also have high targets so I have always had to keep myself busy; and this has meant the role has been very demanding and rewarding.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have been given a lot of responsibility, to effectively go and run my own desk, and essentially thereby running my own business. I have been targeted quite highly as well, meaning I have had to strive to contribute to the highest possible standard, as I would be if I were employed permanently. Any fresh ideas that I have had and wanted to implement I have been able to discuss them with my manager and then if viable just able to go ahead with them myself.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have gained in my internship will assist me massively going forward in my studies and future career. This role has been one of the most demanding and full-on experiences that I could have hoped to be part of, as I have joined a global company dealing with my own personal clients. My personal skills such as communication and sales have improved signifcantly, as well as the just the basic confidence I now have to approach every challenge that I am faced with. Also to receive industry leading training on a regular basis, has been invaluable.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is always very vibrant and active, which is expected from the employees anyway as this then reflects in our high quality customer service. It is a hardworking environment and very target-driven, however because you are working with like-minded and personable individuals it does not always feel so high pressured and is actually a very enjoyable place to be.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It is very well structured, with a full initial 12 week training programme to begin with, and then intervals following this to check in and update your progress. There are set reviews during these intervals where your performance is measured and you can point out anywhere you feel you could do with more support. It is very organised and efficient with regular training sessions to sign up too if you would like too.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company has invested in my personal training significantly, as I was sent to London for a week to receieve training sessions from the internal training team. As well as this my manager regularly has one-to-one meetings to review my performance and make sure there isn't anything I feel I have not been fully trained in, as well as the option to sign up to other training sessions or webinars should I feel they are necessary.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The prospects within the company are very bright, as there a number of possible opportunities to aim for. I could specialise in my current particular field, or decide that I would like to try and apply for a different team within the organisation. From this I can decide whether I would aim to go down a technical or a management route for my career, and furthermore if I would like to gain some international experience in my career. The prospects within the company are there for you to choose for and aim at on an individual basis.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is always a very active social aspect to working in this organisation, on both an informal and professional level. There are industry events and socials where you can interact with your clients on a more personal basis; and then there are the many internal social events such as the Christmas Party, a number of internal incentives, right down to general social events throughout the year that are organised by the employees.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was in Manchester City centre, so it was not the lowest cost of living and socialising, however there has been so many benefits from the professional networking opportunities due to being in the City centre. Cost of living is higher than being out of the city but it is worth it for the experience.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in the area was always busy due to it being City centre. There were always places to go for drinks after work and organise social events to meet up with clients or colleagues so I would definitely recommend it over working out of the City.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Always the opportunities to do so both socially and professionally. I have attended charity dinners and events, as well as going to football matches, sports days, and nights out. There are regular opportunities to get involved outside of work.
