The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement year working at Hays as a Recruitment Consultant. It has given me incredible experience and insight in a commercial environment and developed my skill set. You could not ask for a more from a placement scheme.
I have always felt like a valued member of the team since day one as you are treated in the exact same way as you would any other employee - which made it easy to get along with all the colleagues and be approach them with any queries. I feel I have built good relationships within the office and they didn't even know I was an Intern until I told them!
I have been given excellent support from my manager and supervisors - they have always been on hand to to offer guidance and help me progress within the role - could not have asked for better support from them and the whole team.
Everyday varied - the majority of the time I was busy meeting candidates and clients and other days there were times it would be quiet doing administrative tasks and updating with candidates. There would always be something that could be done.
The responsibility I was given was the same as any other consultant to perform well and meet targets that were set by my Manager. The further I got into the placement, the more responsibility was given to fulfil the role and expand on my experience and skills.
The skills and training I have gained from this placement will definitely help not only help with finishing University, but also in the future. The skills gained in this placement are transferable, especially the time management side which will help when with University.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always buzzing with noise and success stories. There was always a positive vibe around the whole office which kept everyone motivated. The office was all open plan so it was easy to communicate with other colleagues and the room filled with noise from making candidate and business development calls. There were some occasions when it would be quiet at around Christmas and Easter time when people would be off but generally a good atmosphere to work in.
The internship at Hays is very well organised - from the start of the process all the way till the last week. The first 12 weeks are jammed pack with information and training days to ensure you develop knowledge quickly to run your desk.
Hays provide world class training and invest a lot in their employees to develop their knowledge for all employees, including interns. During the first 12 weeks, there is a 3 day training in London where you get to meet fellow interns across the country and Hays pay for all the accommodation and travel! My line manager was always on hand to offer support and guidance when needed.

Hays provide excellent prospects and career development and there is a high level that if you perform well, they will offer you a role for when you graduate.
The Culture
The social scene is great at Hays. We enjoy celebrating a target hitting month with having drinks at the local pub with everyone. There is also a great Christmas party which is a black tie event that involves the whole region in London!
Hampshire is a a really nice area and cost of socialising wasn't extortionate. The cost of living isn't too bad, although as it is near London the prices can be quite high! I was paying about £400 a month which I don't think is too bad for the area I was living in.
The nightlife wasn't too bad - there were a few pubs and clubs that we would go to at the weekends.
There were opportunities to socialise with collogues outside of work which helped us bond as a team
