The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my years Internship with IBM. I felt that I have developed as an employee and person alike. Having the flexibility to work from the many IBM locations was a key for me.
The best thing about IBM is that nearly every employee will go out of their way to help/assist you. This has been evident to me and one thing that I believe sets IBM ahead of its competitors when choosing an Internship
When you first join IBM it is very easy to reach out to your managers to get more of an explanation when trying to do a task. As you go through your placement you will be required to pick things up and require less help, as expected.
This is dependent on your job role. Me being on the BP account felt that at times I would be working in the office until late, but others I could go a week with little work to do.
One thing I felt at IBM was that we weren't just there to make the tea. Interns are given the opportunity to work on real projects with real customers!
I will be taking skills such as communication and teamwork back to University to help my degree. Also I believe these two are key skills needed for Graduate employment.
The Company
Being based away from the main office in central London our office was often quite quiet with little interaction. This could sometimes be a problem if you needed help with a piece of work and your manager wasn't in.
I think the placement was set up excellently. We are given the right contacts to reach out to if we experience a problem and also have the opportunity to join learning opportunities to further our skills.
We are able to go on many training days/online activities to further any skills we may be lacking. The company is willing to invest both time and money to help an intern develop. Something I believe is very important when looking for an Internship.

I am definitely looking at the possibility of returning to IBM after finishing my degree. In fact I have just sent off the Graduate application!
The Culture
IBM has a very large Intern and Graduate workforce. Meaning that it is very social around and after work. This helped me settle into my job much quicker than if I would have been at a company with fewer Interns.
Being based in London it was very expensive to live. Again to socialise, it is expensive but you get what you pay for with many nice rooftop bars in the area.
Again the nightlife was very expensive. But also generally has a good atmosphere and all the bars and clubs are very friendly/lively.
Being such a large company meant that there was always something going on that you could get involved in.
