The Role
Both my role and team have meant that I have thoroughly enjoyed the year at IBM and both have taught me a lot.
I always felt valued by my colleagues and was never made to feel less significant for being a placement student.
My management/supervisors made sure that there was always someone that was able to support or assist us if we had a problem. My team were always willing to help with any issues and provide advice when necessary.
IBM provide online education, opportunities to volunteer and encourage shadowing, so there were plenty of activities to be involved in if my main role was quiet.
My role involved regular communication with the client, which gave me the responsibility to build a polite and effective relationship with the customer.
I am studying for a degree in Economics, however, my role was in finance/commercial management, so there were a small amount of skills common to both, e.g. analytical skills.
The Company
The office was sometimes quiet, but those who worked there were always nice and polite.
IBM has a great process throughout the placement which makes the year well organised.
There are plenty of online courses for your development and, especially for placement students, there are many events to get involved in.

The Culture
There is a large foundation community (grads, interns & apprentices) at IBM, so there are plenty of socialising opportunities.
Lived at home
Plenty of places to go out in both Portsmouth & Southampton!
IBM encourage you to get involved with lots of activities and events outside of your normal role.
