The Role
I enjoyed my work placement to a very great extent as I learnt new things that will shape my future in IT industry.
I feel valued to a great extent, as my work were always appreciated and I put a lot of effort into anything I do.
I was given support to a great extent by the management and supervisor as they are all good people and they are keen on contributing to my development.
on a average I will say fairly busy, though at the start there were times I wasn't very busy due to the fact that I had to wait to get set up on some servers.
I was given quite a number of responsibility, for example I was the contact person in the support team that grant people access to training and development databases. so every request to access training databases have to come to me.
It will assist me very much in the whole of my career, both at the university and beyond, as I have learnt a lot from a world leading organisation.
The Company
the general atmosphere at my office can be described as cool and calm. People are generally nice and very professional. The people are always there to help whenever you call on them for assistance. There are a lot of helpful resources as well in every department, such as the on boarding document that helps new started to get on track with all they need.
The work placement is well organised I must say. Even though at first it looks daunting for me, but I guess its just because I am quite new to a professional environment. I was probably comparing it with the university academic environment. I must say the placement was well organised as there are people looking out for you as buddys who you can speak to at anytime.
The company invested a lot into training and personal development in me as a placement student. This is evident because I was able to attend formal trainings just like the full time employees. I even had the opportunity to have the Lean manufacturing training, which I believe cost money. also there were a lot of other trainings I had the opportunity to acquire throughout the year.

The future employment prospects of the organisation is very appealing as it was revealed to us when a senior manager visited from the United states, he revealed to us how pleased they are in The US with the work we do here in the UK and how it has opened door to other projects the team will be working on in future, which means there will be more employment prospects in the future.
The Culture
I will say there are a few good social scene amongst placement students and colleagues, as often I get invited to outings, and events. Also there is always a well organised leaving do for people who are living and also we had a fantastic Christmas dinner, where everyone in the team were present and had dinner together.
The cost of living and socialising in Peterborough is fairly reasonable. Even though it is a bit more expensive than my native city of Peterborough, but I guess its only because its quite closer to London. the cost of socialising is very okay, as I visited few restaurants and I don't feel they were more expensive than what I am used to.
The night life is good, even though it can be compared to that of more developed cities like London, Birmingham, Nottingham. etc. I believe the night life is not as quality as the other mentioned cities only because there are not many students in the city as the mentioned cities. Still the nigh life is not bad at all.
I will say there were opportunities to get involved in activities outside work, it just depends on the individual. There were time where colleagues at work organised bike rides, mountain climbing and few other activities. I was a member of a gym, which I go actively and I also go to church, which is another opportunity for me to socialise with other people.
