The Role
My year at IBM as a Business Analyst was the best working experience that I have had to date. I was able to push myself and develop my skills in new ways. The area I worked in was interesting and no day was the sames. This placement year at IBM has truly set me up with the best start of my working career.
Right from the word go I was welcomed and introduced to all the members of the team. We would have team socials once a quarter which was another great way to bond. They would always be looking out for new and exciting ways to get me involved in different projects. I truly felt like one of the team.
My managers would always be there to answer any questions and support in anyway they could. Especially at the beginning when there was so much I had to absorb and take in. They would often sit down and catch up to make sure that everything was going well and provide constructive feedback at specific milestones throughout the placement.
As always, there are often days and weeks where you are really busy. Whether you are near project deadline or have presentations to prepare for. I would never be bored as you can always find opportunities to shadow or experience various other parts of the business.
I was always given a very high amount of responsibility. I would often be put in front of clients and asked to do presentations and the team would trust me to deliver them to the best of my ability. I also would create and analyse various reports which my managers would often distribute to executives.
I have developed so many different skills, from presentation to excel. I have been able to show my development through getting another internship after my time at IBM which I wouldn't have got without the development IBM has given me. The training on how to facilitate discussion and how design thinking works are key skills which I will always want to develop and utilise within my career.
The Company
There was quite a lot of my team in and around the office most days so was never on my own. The fellow interns in my team would be in and often
Very well organised. They had inductions to settle us in at the beginning and would organise events for us to get to know each other and understand more about IBM and how you help within it.
IBM are very good with educations and run many different lunch and learns to develop your skills. They would run various workshops in areas you were interested and put on events to help with getting back into IBM.

Financial Bonus
They often hire about half of the placement students that they employee so chances of getting a job are high.
The Culture
You create a real bond with those that you work with. We would often go out on socials and a few of us even booked a holiday skiing.
I was based in London therefore accommodation and going out were quite expensive - but wasn't impossible and still managed to afford a holiday.
Nightlife in London is great with some of the best clubs in the uk. Although it is very expensive.
I was apart of the Hockey team and would often do various events with fellow interns within IBM.
