The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year with Hays recruitment in the legal team. I recruited regularly into some of our major accounts. I thought it was enjoyable as they provide lots of training and development from start to finish which makes you enjoy your job and not worry. There are times it can be stressful and worry as it is a target driven environment.
I felt valued by my colleagues and wasn't looked down to as I was an intern nor was there times people treated me like one, they treated me like a valued member of the company
My managers always provided me with guidance and support throughout whether that be to do with university work or struggling with aspects of the job. They were there to help which made it better.
It is definitely a job where you have to make yourself busy and if they were days when you felt de-motivated, then it would be a long hard day but others when you was motivated it went fast and was constantly busy.
I handled 2/3 major accounts so definitely gave me a lot of responsibility throughout. I definitely would recommend a placement with hays so you can feel like a valued member of the team doing what a full time employer would do.
I feel like it was beneficial to me for my degree as I have learnt a new aspect of the law and business which will be helpful in future. Also, I feel my professionalism towards my studies has changed as I will go into my final year of studies more motivated to do well/
The Company
It was fun and active, when you make a placement everyone claps and recognises your achievement. There are always fancy dress days which are fun and engaging with others, also charity fundraising are active and get everyone having fun and doing something different
It was set up well, they welcomed me, had me in an induction with other interns and went on training down south. I had tests to do online which all interns have to do and other events but it was set up well, where we have weekly catch up meetings to ensure everything is going well.
If I can say one big thing that hays do is invest time and money in their training and development- they have their induction day which is a week long course and also have 2 trips down to London and online training also. They have an associate and intern conference which all interns went to so they can speak with others.
Financial Bonus
Above 25 days holiday
Well I am staying on part time whilst I am at university for 2 days per week which will help me make some money and hopefully.
The Culture
Yes- people go out all the time. I got involved in the weekly football and other events and people went out after work most nights.
It was Manchester city centre so it can be expensive however other people buy drinks for interns which is good of them, on the odd occasion it was expensive to go out. However I lived at home with parents so this reduced my cost of living.
Yes clubs and bars. good Christmas party also. it was really enjoyable knowing the option of going out after work was there
Yes I got involved in the hays football every Wednesday which was fun. This helped in meeting new people and socialising with others
