The Role
I enjoyed the placement, I think it was valuable and has taught me a lot about business, and the industry in general. I met some great people who I will remain friends with for life. It wasn't the best 10 out of 10, but it was good and I enjoyed it.
I felt valued by my colleagues definitely, it is always hard to begin with as you don't know anything and they know everything but you soon learn more about what you are doing and eventually you definitely feel like one of the team and not just an intern. It of course depends on your manager and your team, but I felt valued.
I wasn't given too much support, as I actually never met my manager which I didn't like. She worked from portsmouth and I was based in London so I never actually met her and was able to meet her network. This was probably the worst part about my placement.
It was hit and miss. Some days I would be extremely busy and not stop all day, the next I would have basically nothing to do. This was another thing I wasn't very happy with. But this depends on what individual job you get.
I would say middle of the range. My manager herself didn't give me too much responsibility which I didn't like, but her manager would give me a lot of responsibility which I did enjoy. Again it all depends on which role you get given, some are given loads and loads, others not so much.
I haven't actually been back to university yet so am unable to answer this question somewhat, though I feel they will. I have developed skills that I would not have done normally at university such as professionalism and commercial awareness. I think they will definitely aid me next year and I feel I will treat third year like more of a 9-5 job, and work a lot harder.
The Company
the atmosphere is good, but it depends on where you sit. for example the ground floor is quite chilled out, this is where like marketing sit, and its very chilled. the top floor is where many of the execs sit, and its a lot more businessy and quiet - depends. but you can sit with other interns so its quite fun.
its set up quite well, you get an early professionals manager (EPM) who is like a placement tutor but at work - they help you with any queries you have and they do your reference at the end etc. you get a placement journal to do, and there are lots of opportunities to do further education or events - so actually very well set up I would say.
You get a 2 day induction at the beginning of the placement, and the chance to attend various internal education events as part of being on foundation, but other than that not too much. Again depends on your role but I didn't do anything like this in my year unfortunately.

Working from home
i think they're very appealing, the graduate scheme is meant to be very good and highly recongised in the industry. there are lots of opportunities and many people stay within the company from graduate until retirement and move around different business units so I would say very.
The Culture
yeah, there are over 140 placement students just in my office so the social life is very good. we go out every thursday straight from work which is fun - however again depends what office you're in, mine is the busiest but some only have 4-5 placement students, but ive heard they still have a good social life.
very very high. but this is because i live and work in central london. not being from london i found this quite hard to adjust to but you do get used to it. the pay isn't high enough in my opinion for people that have to rent here in london, but then again if you live at home you're raking it in.
central london so great nightlife.
there are some sports teams that have been set up and play in local leagues, however IBM only subsidise these very slightly and ive had to stop playing as I can't afford it anymore. there is an IBM gym however it is awful and i dont know anyone that uses it. there are a few others if you look in the right places but not loads.
