The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement at Hays as it was completely different to what I initially expected and my role became more varied as I developed professionally.
I felt very valued by my colleagues as support was always at hand if I ever needed it. I was always treated as a permanent member of staff by my colleagues.
When I first started my placement, I was given a training pack and I was monitored by a number of colleagues. I also had monthly business plan meetings with my managers to ensure that I was on track to hit my KPI targets and that I was happy with my workload. They also helped me come up with a day-to-day schedule which gave me enough guidance to ensure that I was spending enough time on each task at hand.
I was very busy on a day-to-day basis as I had the responsibility to work with 8 consultants and resource for three specialisms. Therefore, I had to prioritize my workload to ensure that I was helping each consultant enough. I was also working with the Internal Recruitment team as a Talent Scout to find excellent interns for the next year. I was very busy but it was also the perfect balance as I was able to hit my targets with enough hard work and effort.
I was given a lot of responsibility. I initially started resourcing for Accountancy and Finance, and then progressed to Office Support and finally Education. Initially my job was very candidate focused, but I was also given the responsibility to speak to a few clients, organize interviews and take feedback. During the end of my placement I was given the opportunity to work within compliance which included chasing references for a number of candidates before a tight deadline to ensure they were eligible to work.
I have definitely became more confident as a person since the start of my placement which will really help in my future career and during my final year at University. My persistence and resilience skills have enhanced to find excellent candidates for consultants and their live jobs which makes a financial impact on the company.
The Company
The atmosphere was great within the office as it is a sales environment so it was always busy and buzzing. My manager and colleagues were always very motivating.
The placement is very well set up as I was given training specifically designed for interns. My targets were also reflective of me being an intern and I had a great bonus structure in place if I hit my targets.
I had a lot of time invested to ensure that I was on track to achieve my objectives. I was given a lot of support from the senior leadership team. I also had two days training in London which was specifically for interns. The training provided was outstanding and it covered every aspect of my role at Hays from utilizing the system to finding great candidates. The training really reinforced my understanding and helped me find great candidates.
Financial Bonus
Hays have a great promotion structure in place for permanent employees so the future prospects are very appealing to me.
The Culture
There was a good balance of work and social scenes if we hit our targets. It was a great incentive for us to work towards something to attend different events.
Cost of living was cheap as I lived at home and travelled around 30 minutes to get to work.
The nightlife was quite basic, but I worked close to Birmingham so within a short journey there were plenty of places to go out if you wanted to.
There were not many opportunities or events that happened during weekends. But with enough interest they would have been happy to organize events.
