The Role
It was an extremely enjoyable time. I learnt an incredible amount in a short amount of time, I had the opportunity to experience a range of things. The middle part of the placement was difficult due to a large volume of work but as I became more efficient and confident this work became easier and less stressful
Yes felt valued, my role was a rather significant in terms of providing data to the operations team. It would have been great to have the opportunity to experience some things that would also have aligned with my strengths e.g. more client interaction.
My immediate task manager was incredibly supportive, she repeatedly offered to give up her holiday to support my extra-curricular activities. I could not have asked for anymore! There were however, some others in the team that saw personal development competing with the business interests, which was frustrating at times but nonetheless a useful learning experience.
I had plenty of responsibilities and tasks to keep me busy. So many in fact that when we had a new person join I gave them a couple of my responsibilities, which meant I could focus more on my core tasks.
I had plenty of responsibility in terms of the business unit and maintained the central file that was responsible for feeding the operations roadmap, providing accurate information, upholding data integrity. It would have been good to have some more choice in what i could have been responsible for.
I learnt a great deal, including attending events, vocational/career development, and also generally understanding what office/corporate life is like.
The Company
Good camaraderie between the team and the wider intern/graduate population. Much of the work was remote, so early on was difficult getting used to that. Otherwise, it was a very positive environment.
It had a good structure with plenty of opportunities organised throughout the year.
There are many opportunities, I fully pursued and sought after many personal development training. IBM also provided some soft skills development sessions, and also a general career fair.
Working from home
IBM work on some of the most interesting pieces of technology in the world. Personally I'm a massive fan of AI and IBM provide a unique opportunity to work with this technology. IBM provide a surprisingly friendly working environment despite its leviathan size. I've applied back and would be more than happy to come back and work here.
The Culture
Yes we had a Christmas and summer party for the interns.
I lived in London
I lived in London
