The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my years placement at IBM. My role gave me real responsibility and I felt like i was having a real impact on my business area.
I felt very valued by my colleagues and was always treated as if i was a full time employee.
Both my Early Professional and Task Manager were always available to help guide and supervise me. I never felt like i couldn't go to them for assistance. I saw my Task Manager at least once a week, although contact with my EPM was far less frequent.
My role kept me very busy and there were no days where i was sat around with nothing to do.
I was given lots of responsibility from day 1, which was a little scary at first but something i really enjoyed as time went on.
I don't think what I have learnt will help me particularly in my degree... but it has certainly provided me with a strong grounding in the commercial processes of a large global company.
The Company
Overall the office atmosphere was positive and friendly although some days it could be quite quiet as a lot of people tend to work from home.
The organisation of the year was very good. I was always kept informed of events i could get involved in and processes i needed to follow.
IBM invest a lot of time in training and developing you as an individual. Examples of this would include the careers academy day in London and the Think40 elective.

Working from home
Very appealing, particularly due to the training and personal development programs available.
The Culture
There was a good social scene with the interns at my base location of Warwick. With only a small number we were all very close and did a lot of social activities.
I lived at home for my placement so the cost of living was not a problem.
Nightlife was mixed in the local area
There were lots of social activities to get involved in but i would have liked the option of more sporting activities.
