The Role
Had the most amazing placement, I have learnt so much and been treated as part of the team since day 1. It has been my most beneficial year of my education and am so happy I chose Vauxhall.
I felt extremely valued, I was given real projects since day 1, and they appreciated and valued the work I did.
In the first 2 weeks during my handover period every single person I spoke to offered support and guidance for over the next year which was really reassuring. Had monthly reviews with my manager discussing any issues and how I was getting along.
I was on some days a bit too busy but my manager knew I could handle it and I had continual support during these periods and because of the time of the year was something that couldn't be helped. The extra work I completed was recognised and appreciated. In general I had a good balance.
I would say I was given a lot of responsibility, I had several projects I had to spearhead myself and I was solely responsible for them. I was treated like any other member of staff which I liked, I had a very real role inside the organisation.
Throughout my placement I was given several different training opportunity's which have advanced my skills for not only whilst working but also when I return for university. I received presentation training which was extremely useful also excel ( beginner and advance ) and many more.
The Company
Atmosphere was really fun in the office, I have had such a good year and enjoyed it.
It was really organised got sent a two week handover timetable prior to starting so I knew what I would be doing and where I would be.
Flexi Time
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Definitely something I would be interested in after University, I have made it known I would like to be considered for a Graduate role.
The Culture
Definitely, Vauxhall employee about 70/80 undergraduates so there is a very big social side to the placement and help with housing.
Cost of living was good, Vauxhall help with finding housing and there are 2 open days a month before starting where on one of the days they help you try sort out your houses.
Not many great places to go out in Luton town but got St Albans, Watford and MK close where we've been out a lot and also London a short train away. Harpenden which is a 5/10 minute train is good for cocktails and chilled evenings.
