The Role
Vauxhall has a great placement scheme in place. It was a great work environment and having so many other undergraduates made it a lot of fun.
Everyone is very welcoming and this year I have felt that everyone is willing to help me out.
Support within Vauxhall is great. We are given a mentor at the start of the year which is really useful. Managers are very supportive and do all they can to help.
The business of my job role varies throughout the month. I would say I am a good level of busy! If I ever have any free time there is plenty going on and i often ask if my manager needs any help.
During my placement I was given quite a lot of responsibility. To start with this was quite daunting but there is a great support network within Vauxhall and within a few months I was very comfortable with what I was doing.
I have learnt some great skills this year to take back to uni. Time management and prioritisation has been crucial this year and I feel these new skills will come in very handy next year during my final year.
The Company
The office is a great place to work. Everyone is friendly and chatty. The office is open and there are plenty of windows to bring in a lot of light.
Vauxhall have a great scheme in place that has been running for over 20 years. Everything was set up ready to go when required. Any issues I had were dealt with quickly and effectively.
The company invested a lot into me. I received some great excel training which i will take away from this placement and use for now and the future. We have also been given the opportunity to shadow other departments which has been an eye opener and something that has helped me a great deal.
Subsidised/Company Gym
The company is great and if given the opportunity to return I would love to. But this year has made me realise what I wish to do in the future and right now I am not sure Vauxhall is the place to start my career.
The Culture
Great social scene. There was always something going on!
The cost of living is quite similar to that at uni. We live in student style housing so pay a rent to reflect this. Socialising costs are similar to those at uni. I have found this year i have spent a lot more on doing activities and socialising because we have the weekends free.
Coming from a uni town with a strong nightlife with 4/5 clubs to a town with just 1 it was interesting. But because there are so many of us we make a night great even if the place is quite. I have had some great nights out.
Due to the large undergraduate family and Vauxhall there were numerous opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. With over 100 undergrads there was always something on the go.
