The Role
I have had a very enjoyable and insightful year.
I feel extremely valued by my colleagues, both within my immediate department and in the winder business. Would score higher, however some of the higher management take undergraduates for granted.
Any help needed was given in a constructive way to allow me to learn and undertake my role.
I always have activities to undertake that are engaging. Sometimes however I have been overloaded and struggled to manage the workload.
Full ownership of projects and processes, presenting to a high level.
Transferrable skills gained will set me up well for university and beyond, and if I return to a manufacturing environment, the technical skills gained will serve me well.
The Company
Sometimes unprofessional/old fashioned management styles by production managers, however generally good.
The placement scheme, with a large number of undergraduates across all 3 sites, has allowed a very good community feel to the year, and with the training and handover events provided the placement year has been well organized. My roles and responsibilities are also clear and well defined, and gave me scope to improve upon them.
Invested in a GM problem solving course, and courses such as safer driving etc, however, more detailed training in some processes could have been given.
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The graduates get involved in a lot of activities, however the graduate scheme isn't as well organized as the undergraduate, and is prone to role changes at short notice.
The Culture
Huge social scene with 77 undergraduates in total across 3 sites, with most of the undergraduates house sharing, and frequently organizing events outside of work (mostly un-official, some work organized).
House prices are reasonable, however the area isn't fantastic.
The nightlife within Luton is poor, however you do not need to travel far to find good nightlife.
The undergraduate organized social events were good, however there is not a lot happening in the immediate local area.
