The Role
Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at IBM. I believe it has helped me to grow as an individual as I have had the opportunity to work with some very senior and experienced individuals in the sales team. There is a great intern community that makes the placement year very sociable outside of the workplace. I have been very fortunate to work at IBM.
Extremely. Having worked in a very senior team I was surprised how supportive and generous my colleagues were with their time. I have never felt undervalued or disrespected in the work environment. I have been trusted with a wide variety of tasks, both internal and client facing. This indicates that I was seen as part of the team
My manager was a VP at IBM, consequently she was very busy the majority of the time. However she always made time for me, either on a phone call or just a pop in visit to her office. Once again she trusted me to get on with the tasks I was set and provided me with valuable guidance a long the way to get them done.
I have never been short of work during my time at IBM. However I was very proactive in approach my work team for tasks during down periods. A wide range of tasks has been instrumental to my development during this placement year. I have been able to maintain a great work-life balance
As I have mentioned already I was surprised by the level of responsibility I was trusted with. Having delivered in internal projects, I was trusted by leading sales executives to gain some client exposure. This is something I was very excited to be involved with and it shows how well interns are treated at IBM.
Very much so. IBM has given me a great understanding of the world of big business. Whilst working in the sales and distribution sector of the business, I was exposed to all brands and business lines in IBM. Consequently, I get the opportunity to see how the business functions from a high level perspective.
The Company
Welcoming and friendly. Everyone I had approached at IBM was always willing to provide a helping hand. It is quite a relaxed office environment as many colleagues often work from home and when you're in the office there isn't a formal dress code. I have really enjoyed working in IBM Southbank.
Each placement student is assigned an early professionals manager who will help the intern throughout the year and will monitor your professional development. In addition each intern will have a 3 month, 6 month and 9 month review so you are never alone. Each intern will also be granted a handover period where they get to learn the role they have been given.

Working from home
Future job prospects at IBM are exceptionally appealing to me. Having worked in the sales and distribution sector of the business I have learned a great deal about the nature of the fast paced sales environment. This is the sector of the business I want to come back into. IBM's emerging markets are very appealing and are growing at speed. The future looks bright at IBM.
The Culture
At the beginning of the year it was very sociable amongst interns, as everyone was getting to know each other. This of course died down as the year went on, but most Thursday's interns tended to socialise outside of work. As the year went on I also began to socialise with my extended work team, which were always very enjoyable occasions.
I lived at home and traveled in on the tube, so the cost of living wasn't too different from what I was used to
London is great for nightlife, just very expensive.
yes plenty of opportunities from day one
