The Role
My Work placement with Vauxhall was a real job with real responsibility that would have to be covered by a full time member of staff if you were not there. They value your thoughts and opinions.
From other undergraduates to senior management they care about your thoughts on issues that arise and take on board what you say and it can often be implemented.
My manager and supervisor were always helpful when required as well as other members of staff everyone is so used to having the undergraduates come and go each year and know they are here to learn and are always willing to help with any issues or queries.
I was busy enough that I never was bored or asking for something additional to do, Vauxhall promotes a healthy work life balance.
I was responsible for a large area within fleet and the profitability and expenditure associated with that channel. It was a lot of responsibility for an undergraduate but it helped to show me a real working environment and what would be expected of me after university.
The skills that i developed while at Vauxhall i will carry with me for the remainder of my career.
The Company
The Office was always a fun enjoyable place to work with friendly staff but there was still the serious work mentality so the fun was there as long as you were able to complete your work.
Vauxhall deals with nearly 100 undergraduates a year so they are used to having them come in and work and the process is set up very well.
Vauxhall gave training in all area that were required and if you wanted additional it was possible it would be supplied,
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Vauxhall have asked me to stay on, they are starting too adapt and add more graduate roles for the future.
The Culture
With such a large number of undergraduates there was always the possibility of social events going on.
Housing and local areas is fairly cheap - plenty of areas to go out and eat and drink - Vauxhall helps with the house hunting using previous student experience.
Luton has a poor nightlife but the surrounding areas such as London and Milton Keynes make up for it and they are not too hard to get to on the train.
Fair amount to to.
