The Role
Working at IBM was a very enjoyable experience. You are constantly being pushed to continue progressing and learn new skills.. There is a great network of other Interns around which makes the work environment much more enjoyable
Very! In my particular role my colleagues would regularly be asking me to help them with projects or with problems because of my knowledge in certain areas . I never felt undermined by my colleagues
The Management were very supportive for all work tasks and were happy for you to shout out if you were being overloaded with work. They would also always support you if you wanted to go and learn a new skill or go on a course or take up a new side role. My managers were always just a phone call away
This varied depending on the part of the quarter. For the most part I was very busy, but there was a large lull in January/Feb
Lots, I was the only member of my team in London. So I was effectively running that side of the business on my own, because the face and voice of the business. So I was making decisions on a daily basis that benefited the business and customers.
Having to organize events on a daily basis meant that I needed to be very organised and work to tight timelines. So this will help me manage my dissertation next year and my revision schedule. The communication skills were invaluable as well for an office environment
The Company
As there is a large intern demographic at IBM there are a lot of social activities going on and everyone is of a similar mindset
For me it was well set up. My manager had a clear idea of the role I needed to perform and what he expected me to do and the develop on. My role grew and evolved to incorporate new skills and experiences throughout the year
Hugely, IBM proudly put in a lot of training and development. I had plenty of opportunities to get involved in education about IBM products and to discover the company
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Working from home
As an Intern you get to apply back to IBM as a Graduate before everyone else. However you still need to go through the selection process against fellow interns
The Culture
Yes, as there are roughly 140 interns in the Southbank office there was a strong social scene
Central London is expensive
Pretty good as its London
Lots! There are regular emails offering out opportunities. For example becoming a mentor for a Greenwich University Student
