The Role
It was a great experience and well organised. I am so glad I did a year in industry. I have learnt a lot this year and expanded both my engineering knowledge, as well as improved my soft skills.
I was treated as one of the team and have had a great relationship with them. I felt I was carrying out work that was necessary and making a difference.
I was supported when I asked for support, but did not receive too much support without asking for it. I enjoyed this, as it meant I was left to my own devices until I felt I needed help. However, I often felt like I was wasting my supervisors time when asking for support as he was so busy.
I was pretty busy for most of my placement, but not manic. However, the last two months of my placement I did not have very much to do and got a bit bored.
I was given a large amount of responsibility and was trusted with work I was given. I felt I was making a difference to my team and that my work was worthwhile.
The skills I have developed hugely are the soft skills that employers look for; communication, team work, time management etc. I do not feel that I can take much I have learnt back to my degree though, as the job has been more process engineering and project management, rather then technical engineering.
The Company
Very supportive and a good vibe. However, it was a stressful and busy environment.
Very well organised. Regular emails instructing us of what we needed to do.
A lot of time and effort was spent developing me. I attended a number of courses, including a two week course which was aimed at senior managers.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
They are appealing. Good opportunities available to return to the business once having completed my studies. Opportunities to move around the business on return as well.
The Culture
Poor social scene, as I was based in Liverpool away from the main hub of the business in the midlands.
Very cheap. Liverpool is a cheap place to live and go out.
Very good. Liverpool is a great night out and cheap!
Very little organised in the liverpool area. A lot more on offer in the midlands.
