    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a great experience and well organised. I am so glad I did a year in industry. I have learnt a lot this year and expanded both my engineering knowledge, as well as improved my soft skills.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was treated as one of the team and have had a great relationship with them. I felt I was carrying out work that was necessary and making a difference.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was supported when I asked for support, but did not receive too much support without asking for it. I enjoyed this, as it meant I was left to my own devices until I felt I needed help. However, I often felt like I was wasting my supervisors time when asking for support as he was so busy.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was pretty busy for most of my placement, but not manic. However, the last two months of my placement I did not have very much to do and got a bit bored.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a large amount of responsibility and was trusted with work I was given. I felt I was making a difference to my team and that my work was worthwhile.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed hugely are the soft skills that employers look for; communication, team work, time management etc. I do not feel that I can take much I have learnt back to my degree though, as the job has been more process engineering and project management, rather then technical engineering.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very supportive and a good vibe. However, it was a stressful and busy environment.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. Regular emails instructing us of what we needed to do.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot of time and effort was spent developing me. I attended a number of courses, including a two week course which was aimed at senior managers.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are appealing. Good opportunities available to return to the business once having completed my studies. Opportunities to move around the business on return as well.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Poor social scene, as I was based in Liverpool away from the main hub of the business in the midlands.

    1/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very cheap. Liverpool is a cheap place to live and go out.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good. Liverpool is a great night out and cheap!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Very little organised in the liverpool area. A lot more on offer in the midlands.

    2/5
