The Role
I very much enjoyed my experience at IBM, I was allowed to both grow my role and technical experience and well as grow my soft skills through numerous course and learning events.
Overall at IBM I felt very valued in my role, with all my team taking my opinions and ideas seriously and I was able to contribute to meetings and create new ideas.
I was given a lot of support from my personal manager and they always looked out for my best interests. My task managers were also very good at offering there support to anything I needed and would always make time for me if I needed it.
I was very busy on a daily basis but I was always able to manage the balance of work. I was also offered a lot of support in my role and it was made clear to me that if I was ever overloaded with work to let my manager know and I would be given a greater level of support
Over time I was given more and more responsibility, after 6 months in my role I took on another role as well as my original role, this lead to me be made the deputy team leader of the team and the point of contact for the team.
The skills I developed will greatly assist me in my final year at university, the soft skills I learned around presenting will greatly help me as well as the technical skills I learned e.g ISO27000 which will be useful in my future career.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was a relaxed business atmosphere, with the dress code being business. However it was a friendly environment where everyone is approachable and will offer you help where needed
Very well organised, I was given plenty of notice for where I would be working and the job I was doing. My first four weeks were handover work and training to give me a chance to adapt to the new style of working.
I was given the opportunity to attend a number of training courses across the country for a wide variety of courses. I was always encouraged to attend as many events as possible and always aimed to do so

I would very much like to rejoin IBM in the future in the Security Business Unit, this area is of great interest for me and is one of the fastest moving areas of the business it would be a great opportunity to work there
The Culture
There was a very good social scene at IBM, with many employees socialising after hours to go out for meals/cinema/drinks. We also had weekly football and badminton matches.
My rent per month was nearly £600 and a night out typically cost around £50 so it was quite cheap compared to other areas of the country
The night life was okay, it gets better once the universities are back on as there are more students around then.
We sent up many opportunities outside of the office including joining a 5 a side team, playing hockey, going swimming, tennis and badminton. With there also being shopping centres in the centre of town and cinema
