The Role
I really enjoyed both my project work and the environment of my department
I felt like an equal, as part of a team who were interested by my work
1:1 every week consistently and always available when I needed help
Varied, often could have had more to do, sometimes very busy. A good balance most of the time
My own project and additionally other pieces of side work for different campaigns, although not involved directly in huge responsability
Gained a professional manner and people skills, also had a lot of chances to give presentations and learnt how to present data / draw scientific conclusions
The Company
Great, made friends for life, although I think I was lucky with my office as there were many people of a similar age to me. A social every month or so was good. Everyone ate lunch together which I really enjoyed
Everything GSK was great, however I was actually employed by SRG and they weren't very well organised and communication was very difficult about payslips, holiday etc.
My supervisor was great, I applied for PhDs whilst working at GSK and he really helped with the applications and improving my writing, CV and presentation skills. We were well trained in the lab and went to a lot of personal training or development things. Lots of opportunities to improve and develop
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Definitely appealing, I would love to come back to this same department. everyone appears to have previously done an IP year so prospects look good.
The Culture
Among colleagues, I have made friends for life and enjoy eating lunch with them every day and going to out of work socials. As there were only 2 IPs in my department, that side was not particularly social
Stevenage is very cheap to live in which is great, however London is much more popular for social events and very expensive
Stevenage has limited nightlife
Both inter and intra department there are many social activities. There are also sporting activities available across the company - I played netball with the other IPs and other GSK colleagues.
