The Role
As a Mathematics student, I very much enjoyed the technical aspects of this role, and learnt a great deal about business analytics in a corporate setting.
In all of my projects this year, I worked extremely closely with my colleagues. Having this level of contact and open communication meant that the work could be delivered efficiently, and I was given credit where it was due.
My managers were more than happy to help with any questions or concerns I had, both professionally and personally.
My role was mainly project based, but I also had frequent reports to create and send, which meant that I always had something to work on.
A lot of the time, I was required to present my analysis to team members during calls and meetings, and was fully responsible for answering specific questions. If follow-ups had to be made, I was asked to make these changes and keep people updated of my progress.
As I have mentioned, my role was quite technical; I learnt a lot about databases and building queries using SQL. Going forward in my degree, I think that this will be very beneficial.
The Company
Very lucky as I was part of quite a large team, with five other interns, as well as more experienced colleagues.
Great balance between job role and extra opportunities, for example, giveback and shadowing.
IBM Foundation organised numerous intern events during the year, to help with career development and employability skills.

As the technology industry develops further, there are more opportunities to get involved in.
The Culture
There were around thirty interns in my location, so we all became great friends through the year. Organised various social events to get involved in.
Living in London is generally not cheap, but interns who were based here were given a slightly higher wage to help with living costs.
Not much in Feltham, but very close to central London so nightlife was fine.
Being such a large company, there were always events to get involved in. It was also very easy to message someone with a job role that you are interested in to organise shadowing.
