The Role
I loved every second of working at Vauxhall! I was given so much responsibility in my role and met a great group of friends from the year.
You are never considered as a placement student, from day one, you feel like an actual employee. You are doing a real job from the get go and feel like an really important member in the business.
I had weekly catch up with my managers and was also able to do three reviews throughout the year to check the progress of my goals. I also had a lovely manager who was really supportive and easy to talk to.
Very busy! There was always lots to do in my role which made the job more interesting, it really tested my organisation skills and has made me more equipped to returning to studies next year.
The skills I have gained this year are invaluable. The main skills I've gained are: -Organisation/prioritisation -Creativity -Leadership -Professional Etiquette
The Company
Fun, varied and supportive.
A very well organised and established scheme.
Despite only being there for a year, we were given training such as presentation skills, EXCEL and safe driving. You were also given access to lots of opportunities in order to expand your knowledge and make your year as worthwhile as possible.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Due to the high volume of placement students which enter the business every year, the job prospects aren't too promising. There are some opportunities but limited.
The Culture
Best social scene I've heard of on a placement year. Most undergraduates live together and there is something going on every weekend. There is also a social handover schedule to ensure everyone has met each other before you start work.
Fairly cheap, rent was around £300pp.
Nightlife in Luton is fairly poor with only a Yates on offer, however there is Watford, St Albans and London all nearby.
There are lots of company-led events to get involved in on a monthly basis.
