The Role
The main reason I enjoyed my internship is because of the amount I was able to learn! Not only did I learn more about working in the HR team, but also how to deal with people of varying levels of seniority - invaluable.
Feedback is a big thing at L'Oreal - this definitely makes you feel valued as you are constantly receiving feedback on what you're doing well, what you could do better, etc. The responsibility I was given also made me feel valued, as I felt that some of the jobs I was doing were way above the standard 'intern' level.
As mentioned previously, the feedback given throughout the year was a great support network for my year at L'Oreal. Within my team we also had weekly team meetings, and also 1:1 meetings with my manager which enabled me to ask for help whenever needed, and share with my team time's when I were stressed and needed support. From the other perspective, these team meetings were also great opportunities to alleviate other team member's workloads if they were at capacity.
When working within the Learning and Development team my workload is extremely varied. For example, when a training programme is happening I will be very busy in the work up to this prepping, during, and also afterwards when organizing for feedback, comms to be sent out etc. At other times of the year the projects I will be working on will be team projects, and thus workload is often shared.
I think I was given a lot of responsibility during my year. I looked after two induction trainings end to end, presented to groups of 30+, i also looked after L'Oreal's 360 feedback process end to end.
I have been able to apply lots of already taught theory to my role, and I can't wait to then do the vice versa when I go back to finish my degree. I have also learnt lots of invaluable skills such as priority management and people management, which I will definitely assist me in my studies and future careers.
The Company
The atmosphere is great - definitely a young people's company where networking is seen as key! The intern community is also great with a sports sec, social sec etc to really get everyone involved!
My internship was very well organized. I was given objectives in my first week, and have continued to work on those objectives and more throughout my year.
Whilst at L'Oreal I undertook presentation training, and managing priorities training. I was also given several opportunities to attend 'lunch and learns' where I could speak to people of the business and get to know what they do day-to-day, how they got there, and their major learns throughout their career. I was also given access to a huge pool of online modules which were a great resource.

L'Oreal do not offer a HR grad scheme, so unfortunately I would not be joining L'Oreal as a graduate. I would however definitely consider returning to L'Oreal at an entry level position.
The Culture
Definitely! As there was such a huge group of us we had a committee, who organized numerous things. From intern meals, to rounders in hyde park, to nights out in London! A great social scene!
Considering I'm used to living up North, the price jump was steep. Living only a ten minute commute from the Hammersmith office, I was paying just short of £700 a month. This however is manageable with the L'Oreal pay. I was still able to enjoy London and all it had to offer!
Nightlife was great but expensive! So many options - for any scene!
There were several volunteering opportunities offered to internships. As an example, I went to Butlins for a weekend to make lipglosses with young children with L'Oreal's Young Scientist centre!
