The Role
I enjoyed my placement when I first started working at Hays. I believe it has it's ups and it's downs and very long hours which I don't believe I was ready for.
I feel valued by some colleagues more than others. I believe it was hard to show my value particularly on my desk as I my desk was cold so in 6 months of doing a 360 role virtually no business was built which I believe is the reason some colleagues didn't value me or my position in Hays. I do however believe some colleagues support me immensely and don't want to see me feeling de-valued.
I believe things were done to support me and there came a point where the north west education specialist did some Business development calls with me and noted how difficult my schools where but I appreciated the help. The training offered surrounding education campaigns is also very useful for someone who hadn't experienced on before. I do believe sometimes you are left to work out your own problems but this is probably a tactic of developing people.
The day on education starts at 7:30 and doesn't finish until 17:30 and throughout the whole day you are expected to be busy. Now my roles has changed to a 180 desk I am not required call schools between 7:30 and 8:30 although you are required to swap this time to clearing candidates etc.
When I had a 360 desk i had more responsibility as I was representing Hays to clients and got to plan meetings to build potential business. Now I am in a 180 resourcing there isn't as much responsibility as my desk is candidate driven.
I believe the skills I have acquired such as people facing skills and resilience will assist me much further than my degree. The sales training received on module one is something I believe will stick with me also.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is very focussed due to the targeted nature of recruitment. People are expected to be on the phones most of the time but there is also time to socialise and chat and have a laugh. Over all I feel the atmosphere is very balanced.
I believe most interns come in and just work as they would do if they had just started working for hays as a full time job so it is generally set up very well all though .
I believe the company invests a lot into you in terms of training and development. The aim of an internship the company ideally wants to find undergraduates who will be able to return so a lot is invested into it's interns.
After my time at Hays I don't believe recruitment is the career path for me therefore an employment with the organisation is not something I believe I would pursue if offered.
The Culture
I have bonded well with a number of the people I work with and some other interns. I think everyone is very friendly who I work with and it makes it easier coming into a company where the people respond well to new starters.
The cost of petrol and parking every month in comparison to my wage was quite high but this is just something that you have to deal with working in a busy city centre.
The nightlife is extremely popular in Manchester and is one of the main things that attracts people to the city. I would score the night life a 10/10 but don't go out apart from weekends due to being too tired from working.
No. Apart from peoples birthdays and Christmas and going out for drinks on payday not many activities get planned outside of work. I don't believe as an Intern I was included in many plans.
