The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my time on placement, settled in well and the workload was manageable and interesting for me as an intern and intend to stay on longer past my internship time. The projects I was involved with has been great to work on and I hope to see it through did its conclusion.
I felt like a valued member of the department and in my team too. I believe this was helped by warm introductions and the fact that colleagues treated me more like another colleague, rather than just an 'intern'. My skills were also put to use regularly and I had other colleagues come to ask for help on certain software.
My manager at supervisor were always there to give guidance and support. The main project I was working on was mainly spearheaded by my supervisor so it was mainly us working on it and I could always ask for help when I needed it. My manager was also good to talk to for guidance of outside work matters to and was easily approachable.
Fairly busy as I was constantly working on a project as well as being given other jobs. I could also always ask for work when I'd completed something or didn't have much to get through. There were occasions when I didn't have much work to do but this gave me time to do background research about topics I was working on.
I think a decent amount of responsibility, I mainly worked on a project with my supervisor, however there were others in which I was the lead and was responsible for talking with companies outside my own. I believe I was given the same amount of responsibility as my other colleagues.
I think this placement has definitely improved all my skills across the board. My technical skills have certainly improved on a day to day basis from just generally using software. My communication and presentation skills have also greatly improved during my time here from presenting several times in front of managers and site leaders.
The Company
The atmosphere is generally lively, however still productive. They're are very few interruptions and people will leave you in peace if you are busy. Most people are easily approachable and up for conversation, which also makes the atmosphere better. Occasionally there are also office like events which also improve the atmosphere.
It was organised however I feel like it was more behind the scenes organization. For me personally the start was quite overwhelming and the intern program has been changing in the company. This year all of the interns on site including my self, tested a new further skills program that will be put in place for the next set of interns, in which we will be introducing. I believe that part of me being overwhelmed at the start was because I was the first intern to be given this role, and didn't have an intern to introduce me to everything.
I believe rather a lot, I was given a lot of training, especially in terms of safety, and was always given opportunities that allowed me to develop in someway. I also believe it shows that the company also invested a lot in me by the fact they gave me the job in the first place.

Very appealing, the work I have been doing is something that I enjoy doing and could see myself doing it in the future. The organization on a whole has sites all over the world, and having this placement on my CV would greatly increase my chances of getting a future job with the organisation. There is also a really impressive graduate scheme that is appealing after my university course has finished.
The Culture
The social scene with other interns was great and we usually socialized after work. We all became friends fairly quickly as everyone was in the same boat. However the social scene with other colleagues was just as good and we went out on several meals with people on site.
The site was located in a village just outside a city. Therefore the immediate area around the site was not the greatest area for socializing, other than the local pub in the area. The city was a greater area for socializing however the cost was higher, not unmanageable, but higher. I also lived in the village where the site was so found the cost of living to be good.
There wasn't really any nightlife as I was living in the village and didn't really intend to go into the city to witness it either.
There were lots of opportunities that I could get involved with. Recently I took part in the Cheltenham Science Festival, by volunteering to help with the GE pavilion from our site to teach others about whats done at our site. There were many other volunteering opportunities as well to take part in which helped build a good image on site.
