The Role
It was very interesting as I leaned a great deal regarding computer programming. However I was placed in a team which only did software development, therefore I could not contribute as much as I would have liked due to my lack of programming skills.
Due to my lack of programming skills caused by my engineering background, I could not bring a lot to the team. However, they did their best to include me in everything they did.
My manager was very supportive and helpful. He set up weekly meetings to make sure I always had a task at hand. He listened to my suggestions and put them in practice when they were good.
It was my responsibility to manage my work work and to find the balance between the desk work and the app project, as well as any other events organised by RBS.
Very few, in part due to my lack of programming knowledge but also due to the fact that 9 weeks is a too short period to fully integrate a team.
I now have good Java programming skills, better project management skills, and improved communication and presentation skills.
The Company
Everyone, both in and out of the team, was friendly and helpful. In addition, bi monthly drinks were organised, which was good to network and get to know everyone.
RBS did an excellent job setting us up. The events they organised were always helpful, interactive, and fun.
there was one week of training at the start of the internship, which is already 10% of the internship. The grad programme offers 2 months, which I think is excellent.
Company Parties/Events
I'm not sure yet, though if I get offered a place on the graduate programme I will most definitely accept.
The Culture
Many events were organised by both RBS and the interns themselves. the android app project was a great way to force us to spend time with each other.
very high, as always if you want to live less than 30 minutes from the city.
Not bad, although I don't fancy the shoreditch/old street area.
No, as summer is generally quiet. but I'm sure it is different during the year.
