The Role
I enjoyed my placement from the first to the last day!
LBG makes every colleague feel valued
Help will always be given at Lloyds banking group, to those who ask for it.
I was a busy bee most of the time
I was given enough responsibility whilst working, I knew there was a safety net of colleagues there had I needed them.
I implemented some of the skills during my work placement module which received a high grade.
The Company
The general atmosphere was one of, for like of a better term, a family. Everyone was invested in each other and cared about people rather than colleagues. When colleagues needed lifting, others were there to do it. When happiness was brought in, it infected the whole office and gave everyone a rise. Although, at times we were under high pressure, we were still able to come together as one to overcome challenges.
The placement was incredibly well set up, Lloyds have an in depth infrastructure behind their placement programme, with a robust on boarding process spanning the first month of a students time with the company. There are so many things to experience from day one during a placement with Lloyds, training, shadowing, boot camps etc. LBG really enforces the importance of these early stages, as students are with the group or 12 months, its imperative they hit the ground running and are able to begin adding value as soon as possible.
Lloyds banking group have an array of different training and development opportunities both online and face to face. These give colleagues the opportunity to develop themselves in areas which they feel they need to, at a time that suits them. Courses range from people skills, team management and colleague engagement to work based skills, improving excel usage and accounting software. All are designed to nurture colleague potential and get the best out of the workforce.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
At the current moment, there is a large structure change within the organisation. This has lead to a lot of lower level jobs being absorbed to save money and space. This could change however but I would like to return here upon graduating. Other than returning full time, Lloyds banking group has an in depth graduate programme, allowing students to take four, 6 month placements around the country in different teams, experiencing different parts of the organisation.
The Culture
Halifax, where I was based, is great as it has its own nightlife scene, including Acapulco Halifax where drinks are only 75p. Saying that, you could always just go to leeds and space where shots are 80p, don't get a blue wkd though as they are £4.20, which is quite expensive compared to accas delightful offers. IPs tend to get very friendly with one another and a real bond has been built amongst them, this isn't apparent for all sites but is evident in HFX.
I lived in leeds and commuted to Halifax, on the bus costing about £40 a month. Living costs in leeds are fairly low, as long as you share a house and are frugal with heating and electricity. as previously said, social aspects are cheap in both Halifax and leeds so the cost of general living is lower than most other places.
"you know how it is" Halifax is one of those ones, a place where you can have the best night of your life and still come home with change from a £20. Acca offers a range of music, both good and very very very bad. but drinks are 75p, I cant enforce this enough, SEVENTY FIVE PENCE FOR A DRINK. In acca, you can get 10 drinks for the price of two in leeds.
Lloyds banking group have loads of opportunities for colleagues to get engaged outside of work. For example, each yeah colleagues are advised to have a ‘day to make a difference’ helping out local charities for the day and giving back to the locals of Halifax or wherever they may be based.
