The Role
Working at M&G has been very enjoyable. The work has been challenging and interesting, and support from others was always available. The people are extremely welcoming and friendly. Lots of social events and opportunities to expand your network.
I could see the impact any work i was completing was having on business processes and also lightening the workload for colleagues in my team. I was relied upon for certain tasks and felt what i was doing was appreciated.
My managers were very approachable and full of advice! If I had any issues/questions they were easy to talk to and would be extremely helpful in resolving anything.
Some days are busier than others but everyday I had a sufficient amount of work to be getting on with. There was a mix of picking up daily queries and ongoing background tasks that I could return to when things were more quiet.
I was given a lot of responsibility related to one vendor product used by the business, and was closely involved with any projects surrounding it. Towards the end of my placement I became one of the main points of contact in the team for any queries to do with this product in particular.
I have developed and enhanced so many technical and soft skills whilst on placement which can all be used to assist in my degree and future career prospects.
The Company
Everyone is very easy going and friendly. Even when we encountered system issues everyone kept a positive and calm attitude. The office layout encouraged me to speak to different people and all my colleagues were very approachable. People are always up for a laugh and if I was having a bad day I could count on the people around me to cheer me up.
Very well organised. I had regular catch ups with my managers, assigned buddy and HR. There were lots of opportunities to attend info sessions and widen my knowledge on the front end processes. I was well informed about these sessions in advance so I could plan to attend. During the first few months there was planned work for me to do, before I was confident enough to start picking up tasks myself.
My colleagues took a lot of time out to help with my personal training and development. In terms of developing technical skills members of my team would always find time to guide me. My manager was extremely helpful with enhancing my soft skills such as communication and confidence in presenting.

Working from home
There are a lot of interesting opportunities and roles within the organisation and having spoken to those on the graduate scheme the feedback is very positive. The support I have been given during placement would definitely encourage me to pursue future prospects.
The Culture
During the intern scheme at the start of my placement there were lots of social events to attend. This did not stop when the summer interns left; there were regular department nights out which were always very enjoyable as well as summer and christmas parties which also gave good opportunities for networking. My team would go for a team lunch once a month and there were plenty of chances to go for drinks after work and get to know more people.
I lived at home during my placement so did not have to pay any rent! The cost of commuting in from home was affordable. Socialising in London is obviously quite expensive but this is to be expected and it did not deter me from attending any social events.
Being in Central London there were lots of places to go on an evening after work. There was a large variety of places to go either for a casual drink or going to a nightclub. We never struggled with finding somewhere to go and after a year of placement there are still loads of places I have not been to.
There were always sports and social activities to attend. Some examples of opportunities that were available during my year at M&G included softball, crazy golf, charity sports and a street art tour. There is a wide variety of options so there is something for everyone. The work/life balance is definitely encouraged by M&G.
