The Role
I enjoyed having real responsibility and the ability to make business impact. I was treated like a full time employee, not an intern which made the experience great as I was allowed to drive my own personal development and work streams with the support of the business.
My team are a group of highly intellectual individuals who challenged me and gave me the opportunity to learn from. I was invited to all event and my highlight included meeting the President of Microsoft and a corporate vice presidents.
My manager was fantastic. She made my experience at Microsoft. I would say I am leaving and independent individual with a strong work ethic and an understanding of a multinational. She empowered me to understand the business, the role of a manager and what I should expect from a company.
I found myself very busy and challenged on a daily basis. I preferred it this way and I involved myself in a lot of work. I had a great relationship with my manager and the team meaning I was able to free myself from work when I was swamped.
Everything I did had a business impact and resulted in giving my visibility and responsibility. I had regular meetings with various members of the team, senior leaders and mentors. I asked for my own project and was given the responsibility to own and run my own initiative
I have an improved work ethic and attitude towards work and projects as I have learnt key disciplines that relate to my studies.
The Company
Small team but the business had a great open planned office so really inclusive.
The university recruitment team have a great plan for the interns offering support and development for the internship programme.
Hugely. This is the best part of my internship. I had access to over 3,500 employees to ask help from and have several mentors to help guide my skill interests. I would purely recommend this placement because of this aspect.

The Culture
Very good - interns all along the similar road and the handover between intern cohorts is great.
Fairly cheap and close to work as they provide free transport. It depends where in Reading you live.
Good nightlife, reading is a university town and also very close to reading.
Yes - both with the team and the company. Often invited to event and there is social and sport clubs.
