The Role
I absolutely loved my placement year. working at Microsoft has by far been one of the best years of my life and a stepping stone into my future career. I have never experienced an opportunity as great as this and I truly feel thankful to Microsoft for providing me with this is opportunity.
My colleagues made me feel at home everyday. There wasn't a single day where I did not look forward to coming into work and seeing all the people I interacted with on a daily basis. I have worked in the most supportive team who value my efforts and achievements and really thrived in helping me get set for my future.
My manager was fantastic when it came to providing me with support and guidance. He also assigned 2 mentors to me, one to help with my core role and one to help with my personal development. He also supported the fact that I had to complete a project for my university course and provided me with extremely useful resources.
On a daily basis none of tasks were the same as the previous day. on some days I was really busy with projects and other days I was less busy but I was always given something to do and when I felt like I had too much the workload would be taken off me so that I was able to find my feet and vice versa, when I did not have enough all I had to do was ask so I always had the right balance of work.
I was given a lot more responsibility than I thought I wold have been given on my placement year. everyone always presumes that you will have an "intern-job" but that was not right, I was given real life responsible projects , processes I had to manage for the whole of the UK subsidiary and teams to lead as well. whenever I felt like I wasn't able to complete something, I had the utmost support from all my colleagues and managers and was always able to get the job done.
The skills I have developed whilst on my placement year at Microsoft are invaluable. they will forever be crossed over into my future and will help me to get so far in life. I never would have thought that I would learn so much and build up on existing skills whilst picking up new skills at the same time. I have definitely got skills for life which will help with my degree and any future job.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was always relaxed. we always had a lot of fun and there was never a dull moment. even when we were under pressure with sales targets everyone kept a cool head and got everything done with a smile on their faces and support from the team members around.
extremely organised. exceeded my expectations. the Whole Microsoft culture is extraordinary. absolutely fantastic
the company invested a lot of time into my personal development. my job was 70% of my core role, and the other 30% was based on my personal development. I was able to get involved in a number of stretch projects which has rally increased my personal development to a next step and has made me 100x more confident than before,
