The Role
Microsoft was just an exciting place to work in - the very best of Software Engineers guiding you and letting you grow, by assigning real responsibilities from day 1. It really felt like I was making an impact, as we were driving the experience of search results of million Windows 10 users.
As said above ,I was give real responsibilities. My contribution was valued and I was treated like a full time member of the time. Even in code reviewing practices, my opinion was valued from the very first weeks here.
Regular meetings with my management, plus the tremendous support of HR, that was committed to delivering a great experience for all interns. I do wish that they had a little bit more insight of what the day to day role was though, as it felt that the onboarding was a bit insufficient... It took a while to understand everything but once we started out with our first tasks, everything started to feel more familiar and easier.
I was really busy with real feature work and bugs that affected production. This felt really great, although I wish that it was a bit more balanced.
Real responsibilities from the first weeks. It felt great to have real responsibilities for a products that have such impact.
The skills and the expertise of the team members helped me grow into a Software Engineer. I'm sure that for my degree studies but even after that, this will help me be more efficient and produce better code.
The Company
The general atmosphere was really great - the intern community was vivid and all of the team members were friendly and helpful. We also had some offsite events that were really fun and bonding.
I believe that there is a bit of work to be done in the recruitment process and in the onboarding. Other than that, the rest of the placement was set up in a very well organized manner that contributed to not feel anxious at all about this year.
Even if the official training was a bit insufficient for the day to day role, the company did invest by assigning real responsibilities to me and letting me grow through these experiences.

Both the MACH scheme but also FTE roles do seem really appealing. The feeling of contributing to products that have such impact to so many users, just makes every Software Engineer excited.
The Culture
It was good, although a lot of us were based in different locations and worked different hours so it was a bit hard to organize stuff, but we did go out often with the interns that were based in the same location as me.
Very expensive - we worked in Holborn, in London. Everything is really expensive.
London nightlife is undoubtedly great - so many options!
Yes - so many. Charity work, and also teams that make interns grow, like the interns and apprentices blog of Microsoft UK.
