The Role
I have absolutely loved my internship at Microsoft. No two days are the same and the people I have met have helped to shape my career.
At Microsoft you are not thought of as an different to your colleagues and I have been given the same responsibility in work as full time colleagues, as well as been recognised for the hard work I have done through the year.
Although I have changed managers through my internship as my manager has gone on maternity leave, I have really enjoyed being managed by two different people with very different approaches. Both have been so helpful and the community here also lets you feel like a student with a full time job!
They days fly by! No two days are the same for me, and I have been fortunate to be given a lot of variance in my role. I can honestly say I have never once looked at my watch and wanted the day to end... apart from the odd Friday after a Thursday night out with my team!
I am in change of reporting for a full Line of Business. This is really important, and I feel honoured to be given this amount of responsibility.
I have had so many training opportunities. from shadowing, MOS Exam Certifications, training days and a variation of tasks, and I know I will perform better at university having these qualities.
The Company
Although working in an EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) team means my team are away a lot, the intern and manager community is so strong there is always someone around, with lots of events happening every week at the HQ in Reading.
I loved the Welcome Day, meeting and getting to know the interns before deciding who to live with was important, as well a the Mid Year review and the End of Year event!

Brilliant! The MACH scheme is one of the best in the country and working here you can understand why!
The Culture
YES! There are over 100 of us this year, who are all very similar and enjoy similar things. We have organised holidays, away days, nights out and Ascot/Good wood races several times each this year!
I have managed to save a lot of money as well as go travelling for 6 weeks and on 3 other holidays as living in the student areas of Reading is cheaper than up north and £17,000 is a lot of money as a student.
The nightlife in Reading is good and has a real student vibe! Cheap nights and cheap drinks!
The sports teams at Microsoft regularly go abroad and the 101 teams are a great way to get involve outside work!
