The Role
It was a really good introduction to this area, I learnt alot and the programme was well thought out.
A very horizontal feeling institution and I felt that people took notice of me and were interested in what we were up to
My hiring manager was unfortunately rather busy most of the time, which was very understandable but as a desk we were looked after and most of the time HR were very useful
Depending on the time of day I was more or less busy, but was never over stretched and some one was always willing to talk to me if I had little on.
It is pretty much illegal for an intern to do much of use on a trading internship so not much!
I think my understanding of the market and the role of a trader grew exponentially, aswell as a general understanding of the financial markets and macro economics. The programme was fairly unrelated to my university course so I wouldnt say it had much effect on that, but if I end up in this sector my time here will have been invaluable.
The Company
General atmosphere was good, pleasant place to work, little quiet as it was the summer and lots of people were on holiday
Very well organised, great to get the rotations at the start and find where you are suited to. Good learning over view of the whole department.
There wasnt too much of this but I know that if you do the grad programme there is a lot of investment, would be crazy if a bank say put you through your fsa's before joining!
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Would be a nice place to work, will have to wait and see!
The Culture
There is a large intern class and lots of intern interaction. Not over forced though, can be as involved as you like, many RBS events to help this along the way
I was lucky since lived close enough to live at home for this but the cost of living and socialising in central london is very expensive!
Since weekends were off, more just explored pubs by work than going out out really close to work, so cant really comment. A buzzy area though, lots of fun for those in the know
there were some opportunities, though they perhaps emerged only in the first week before I was sure how much spare time I would be able to dedicate to them, bit of a shame.
