The Role
I really enjoyed my 12 month Placement Year at IBM. I learnt many new skills during my year which I will take with me throughout my career. You are encouraged to achieve the best you possibly can and there are plenty of opportunists to network and develop your knowledge outside of your every day role.
I felt very valued by colleagues and felt the work that I did contributed to the wider IBM picture. I helped customers, IBM'ers and channel partners directly in my daily role and always felt my work was very much appreciated.
My Manager and wider European Team were very supportive throughout the year. If I ever need some guidance they were more than happy to guide me to the answer.
My role did not require me to do set work each day. Instead the work varied on what queries and tasks we had been sent that day. This meant during periods such as Month End and Year End I would get extremely busy, however during certain months I had spare time to take advantage of opportunities outside of my role.
My role meant I was given a lot of responsibility. During my Managers vacation I would be solely responsible for the UK and Ireland Passport Advantage queries, with support available from the European team if needed. My work would direct affect large deals and customer issues.
I have learnt how to organize myself in a more structured and reliable way. I have developed more skilled communication skills and am also now able to concentrate for a longer period of time.

The Culture
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in outside of your daily role. This would include mentoring, helping out at assessment centres and organising events
