    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was definitely an enjoyable experience, I had the opportunity to meet many, many people and bond over both social and work activities.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were all very supportive, even when I faced issues within the company I was always given help and praised for the work I did.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I entered IBM at a time of organisational shifts, this often meant my initial manager was very busy and did not always structure my work. However, my EPM was at hand to help in this situation and I was always tasked with something to do.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally I always had a project to work on, some days were very quiet and others extremely busy. Overall I would have to say on an average day at IBM, I was moderately busy

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • With every single task I had, I always felt responsible for its task, The managers I worked under gave me space and time to work, this was great and helped me to develop my skills as a placement student

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This placement has helped me get into a structured routine where I start each day at the same time, even weekends. As a result I have been able to get a lot more things done. Most of the work I was given required me to do a lot of self education, and this will definitely help in my final year of study. I feel like I will be a lot more organised and work for longer periods of time than I would have normally.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office ranged from quiet to very vibrant and energetic. Some days this was great as it really helped contribute to a team atmosphere and general mood in the office, Other days it could be moderately distracting but even then it was always great to be in the office, everyone was very helpful and I made a lot of friends.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Whilst my experience did leave gaps of uncertainty in regards to my work, my EPM helped to structure my managers and work I was given, This was great as it helped me feel as though I was working through several different projects, even when work slowed.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would say a great deal, I was given a great deal of trust to do new things and push myself in ways that enabled me to work with clients and on important accounts. I was always given training of some form and this definitely developed me in terms of my professionalism.

    3/5

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely there was always something to do with fellow placement students

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked in Warwick, so it was quite high in some areas, but not impossible to find cheap places to go out and do things in.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was okay, not a big enough city as to what I am used to so it probably isn't fair to compare it in this way.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many different clubs and events, IBM definitely had no shortages of opportunities in this area
