The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement year at Hays. The office culture is supportive and encourages personal and team successes. I've learned a lot during my year at Hays, the work itself and the skills I've developed have been invaluable.
While working at Hays I have felt like a valued member of the team, my efforts have been recognized consistently throughout the year and my manager has always been very encouraging.
The training program for my placement year has been very well enforced and followed-up. Within the first 6 weeks, we covered multiple training topics in both one-to-one and group sessions which was a good opportunity to meet the other interns in the business. Following on from this initial starter training, my manager has consistently given feedback and invited me to external training sessions throughout the year which were relevant to my current work focus. I changed roles 10 weeks into my placement year and the team were supportive and welcoming. It was also a great relief that I was able to find a role within the business that was better suited to my skills, goals and aspirations for the remainder of my 52 week placement and my managers in both positions were supportive during the transition period.
On a daily basis I have had a good balance in terms of workload and busyness. There were times of year that were busier than others, but in general I would say that it was a good balance.
I have been given great responsibility during my placement year, with only a few things requiring final approval by business managers.
The skills I have developed this year will be greatly beneficial to me as a student in my final year of study at University, developing these skills in a recruitment setting I feel also stands me in good stead for applying for Graduate Jobs next year as I am able to recognize what makes a strong CV/Application.
The Company
The office had a good balance of work and play, with core hours enforced to drive sales and activity, as well as exciting incentives.
The placement year at Hays is very well organized and structured, with clear timelines and targets.
Hays invest a lot of time in the training and development of their employees, there was a lot of one-to-one and on-the-job training throughout the year as well as off-site training courses. Some aspects of training were not directly relevant or unavailable which is my reasoning for not giving a 10/10.

The future employment prospects within the organization are appealing and I know I would be welcome to re-join the team! Factors such as location and finances would influence my decision to come back as a Graduate.
The Culture
The office is very social, with work drinks being hosted in local bars each Friday. Although you do not get to work directly with other interns as the business is divided into specialisms, there are opportunities to socialize with them outside of work.
As the office is based in central London is it very expensive to go to bars and restaurants in the local area however incentives and 'end of period' nights out do mean that the managers sometimes foot the bill..!
Really great nightlife in the area with loads of options of places to go.
There were several opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work such as a Sports Night, charity events and sports teams.
