The Role
My work placement gave me a lot of opportunity to familiarise myself to the business world. I have also been involved in various initiatives aiming to give back to the community.
I have been entrusted numerous important tasks relating to big projects. I was treated with respect and I always had a voice in decision makings.
My manager and I had weekly meetings to discuss work progress, I had a 2 week handover period with the previous placement student that enabled me to adapt to the company quicker. Various interactive trainings were also provided.
It varies on the projects and number of enquiries we receive externally.
The amount of responsibility was enough to make me grow faster professionally and personally. I had a defined workplan but I always had the opportunity to take on extra responsibilities to challenge myself.
All the skills I have acquired are transferrable. Time management skills will certainly beneficial for me as I finish my degree. I also strongly believe that I am now more employable and more likely to succeed in my career journey.
The Company
Cummins is a very very diverse company, You will see people and work with people from different parts of the world. Everyone is so friendly but most importantly everyone treats each other with respect.
I had a detailed workplan but underwent some organisational changes that then slightly changed my role and my objectives.
We had different types of trainings, with our line manager and buddies. We also had trainings developed by the company that are tailored to our needs. The company also paid external specialised agencies to provide us trainings related to general business etiquettes and skills.

The graduate scheme sounds very interesting and I am certainly willing to come back if given the opportunity.
The Culture
Yes, placements normally go for lunch together and go out for birthdays or other special occasions.
Really cheap. i found accommodation through spareroom.co.uk
Ramsgate is not very popular for nightlife, but me and some other placements discovered a bar called the 'Bench' and it's very relaxing. For good clubs, Canterbury is just 15mins away by train.
Yes! even opportunities in managing your own project for corporate responsibility.
